Continuing PTC’s SaaS journey
On 13 September 2022, PTC announced the availability of the Onshape-Arena Connection, new functionality that connects its cloud-native Onshape® product development and Arena® product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions. PTC states the Connection is designed to help companies better manage their product development process and simplify collaboration with supply chain partners. The Connection enables product data to be shared transparently and instantly between the Onshape and Arena solutions with the click of a button.
“The Onshape-Arena Connection is the next step on PTC’s journey to make the product development process faster, easier, and more agile for designers, engineers, and suppliers, and it's only possible because of the cloud-native architectures of Onshape and Arena,” said Mr. Jon Hirschtick, General Manager of Onshape at PTC. “This is product development from a single provider with CAD, PDM, and PLM workflows fully realized in the cloud.”
Users working in either Onshape or Arena can automatically access capabilities from the other solution without changing applications. For example, a user in Onshape that needs a new part number simply requests it using the Onshape UI. The Onshape user is not even aware that Arena is providing the data needed. The Onshape-Arena connection retrieves a new part number from Arena and automatically loads it into Onshape without requiring user interaction. CIMdata thinks this transparent connection between Onshape and Arena delivers an excellent step forward in helping both Onshape and Arena users to be more productive and expands the integration and management of Onshape-created data within an enterprise.
The Connection requires zero downloads, installs, or administration time and comes at no additional cost to Onshape and Arena users.
